Devan Woods is a professional cosmetologist located in Birmingham, AL. She has always had a passion for hair since a young age. However, being discouraged from doing hair as she was told “it’s what the average black girl wants to do. Do something else.” Her dream was delayed for some time.

Devan received her training in cosmetology from Lawson State Community College and graduated in 2011. Known as The Specialist because she specializes in straightening relaxer free hair, color, and precision cuts, Devan is extremely passionate about what she does. One of Devan’s most memorable experiences is when she won 1st Place in The Bella Encore Hair Show in 2015. She has also had the opportunity of sharing her knowledge and techniques with fellow hairstylists by teaching her own Silk Press and Color Classes.

Born in Cleveland, OH Devan has certainly grown accustomed to the southern culture. Her parents divorce is what lead her to Birmingham when she was 12 years old. She proudly calls this place home and wouldn’t trade Ohio’s blistery winters for Alabama’s scorching hot summers.

The road to building and maintaining a continually growing clientele has not been a smooth one. Devan can remember being laughed at in the salon by her peers because her work had not yet been perfected. Not to mention the time she took a client’s hair out after trying a new technique she had learned in a color class the day before. Thus, she kept pushing and praying for GOD to help her grow professionally and talent.

Along with providing beautiful colors and healthy hair maintenance Devan prides herself for being efficient with her clients’ time. Pulling a shift in the salon should have been left in the 90’s
